About Clair Obscurdle

A daily deduction game, made and maintained by a fan, for everyone who has wandered the Continent of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

What Clair Obscurdle is

Clair Obscurdle is a daily deduction game devoted to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the role-playing game by Sandfall Interactive. Every day, five puzzles are waiting for you: find a character from clues in Classic and Complete modes, work out who spoke a line in Quote mode, name a weapon in Weapons mode and recognise an enemy in Enemy mode. The site is fully bilingual, in English and French, and has been online since June 2026.

Each mode trains a different kind of memory. The grid rewards knowing who belongs to which group and where you first met them; Quote mode rewards an ear for the cast's voices; the two picture modes reward a sharp eye for silhouettes and details.

The idea comes from the family of “-dle” games that followed in Wordle's wake: one puzzle a day, the same for everyone, and a result you can share without giving the answer away.

Why this site exists

Clair Obscurdle grew out of two passions: Expedition 33, and the small deduction games people come back to every morning. Sandfall's game suits the format particularly well. It is packed with memorable characters, strangely shaped Nevrons, weapons with invented names and lines that stick in your head. That was plenty to feed a game of memory and observation, playable in a few minutes, in the language of your choice.

Where the data comes from

A deduction game is only as good as its data: one wrong cell in the grid and a whole round becomes unfair. So I took the time to go back to the source.

  • Names of characters, weapons and enemies, in English and French alike, come from the game's own localisation tables.
  • Quotes are extracted word for word from the same files. Each line is tied to its character there by the dialogue identifier, which rules out guesswork about who said what.
  • Weapon icons and enemy portraits are the ones used in the game's interface. A few hero and NPC portraits come from the community wiki.
  • The attributes compared by the grid (category, role, gender, affiliation, combat style, zone of first appearance) are classified by hand, cross-checking the game against the community wikis.

Today the site covers 123 characters, 107 weapons, 149 enemies and 76 quotes. The last full check of this data against the game files was carried out on 20 June 2026. Content from the “Thank You” update is still described on a best-effort basis, as it is not fully documented.

How the daily puzzle works

There is no game server. Each mode's answer is computed in your browser from the date, so everyone gets the same puzzle on the same day. Once drawn, a character, weapon or enemy cannot come back within the next seven days, and each mode has its own draw, offset from the others, so that their answers are not tied together. The full mechanism is explained in the article on the daily draw.

Editorial principles

  • No needless spoilers. The guides stick to the starting point of the story. The game modes, however, inevitably use the names of characters you only meet late in the adventure: keep that in mind if you have not finished the game.
  • Accuracy first. The figures quoted in the guides and the codex are computed from the site's data and update along with it.
  • Corrections are welcome. If something looks wrong to you, write to me with your source: that is how mistakes get fixed.

Free, no account, funded by ads

Clair Obscurdle is free. There is no account and no sign-up, and your progress stays in your browser. Analytics run on Umami, a cookieless tool that cannot identify you. The ads shown on the site are served by Google AdSense and cover hosting and maintenance. The details are in the privacy policy.

An independent project

Clair Obscurdle is an unofficial fan project. It is neither affiliated with nor endorsed by Sandfall Interactive or Kepler Interactive. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, its characters, names, images and dialogue belong to their respective owners; they are used here for play and as a tribute. A rights holder who wants a piece of content removed can reach me through the Contact page, and such requests are handled first.

To carry on, you can browse the guides, look through the codex or read the FAQ.
